There was an interesting article on the Digital Photography School blog last week on the theme of Making Your Photos Pop.
I had a fairly uninteresting photo I had taken of the brick tower of Ladywell Gymnastics Club – sadly abandoned and decaying – which seemed a good choice to try some of the techniques. My favourite version was a combination of two techniques (one from the article and one that I had learnt previously) but you can visit Flickr to see them all.
The key lesson, as might be expected, is that not all the approaches work on all photos. Some of them improved my shot and some made it worse. However, it is useful to have a bag of ideas to draw on, especially if you have developed the experience to know which one is most likely to help a given shot.
