Lidded

I had some wood to process today – a selection of branches (mainly willow and little bit of cherry). The trouble was that I didn’t have a spare box to store it in. Or, more accurately, I had a box but it didn’t have a lid. So, before I could chop the branches into short bits to season, first I had to construct a lid.

Having a shed and an external power socket was in my favour. However, the shed is on the full side at the moment because a lot of the bits for my new polytunnel are jammed in there. I’ve still got to take the old frame to the allotment and move some of the prebuild beds before I can start construction on that.

Fortunately, there was enough room to work so I could identify some suitable bits from my wood supply, construct a simple frame (sized to fit on the box with the cross pieces set lower so it won’t slip off) and add a flat sheet to keep it all square. The sheet is off the back of an old chest of drawers and probably won’t last forever although the roof I did for a wood store earlier this year with a couple of similar sheets has held up much better than I expected.

Anyway, job done, wood processed and I’ve now collected another big bagful which will let me top the box up (and probably demand another lid to be made for the next lidless box!).
