Yesterday’s dinner was this chicken and mushroom pie:
I put a version of this picture on my Instagram and Facebook accounts. Several people asked what kind of pie it was and many complimented the decoration.
Truth be told though, it mainly got so decorated because I underestimated the amount of pastry needed to cover the dish I was cooking in. As it was clearly short, I cut out a central circle (using a saucepan lid) and then rolled out some strips from which I created four large triangles and eight smaller ones. Those went round the outside of the disk and I used the remainder to make a square and a rose (rolled out of the last scraps).
Pastry looks more inviting with a glaze but that gave me quite a lot of whisked egg left over. To finish things off, I mixed that with a little milk and filled in the gaps. It all turned out okay though, both as a meal and as an attention-grabbing photo!
