Wedding Reflections

I had not intended to pay much attention to Friday’s Royal Wedding but we had a long road trip and the CD player was broken so, since we tend to leave the dial on Radio 4, we got a morning of build up and the service itself.

I did come away feeling quite impressed though. The wedding service was the same as used by many, many others before; a solemn tradition of commitment rather than the novelty of entertainment. The prayer which the couple had written, read out by Archbishop Rowan Williams during his address, also seemed very grounded in reality. If they can, for their part and with the divine help they asked for, live the life of generosity, wisdom and service described, then they should do good with the privilege which they wield.
