Since I started using Linux, almost a decade ago now, I have pronounced it “Lie-nux”. Knowing it was named after the originator, Linus Torvaalds, and know how I pronounce the name Linus, it seemed straight forward.
However, it seems that almost everyone else opts for “Linn-ux”, which is based more on the Finnish pronounciation of his name. I have doggedly stuck to my version but, now I am going to be making even more use of this Open Source operating system at work, I think I am going to have to try and reprogram my tongue to fit with this canonical version.
