Hurrah! We finally got a new shower installed yesterday.
The mixer shower that came with the house always seemed a bit dicey. You’d think it was running well and then the water would suddenly go cold. Especially since I try to follow what I think is sometimes called the “navy shower” approach (wet yourself down then turn off the water while lathering up before putting the water back on – much less wastage) I often got caught. I found it helped to step out of the shower and run the hot tap in the sink until it actually got hot but that was inconvenient, wasteful and not something you’d want to subject guests to.
I think the problem was probably linked to the boiler as we also have similar temperature issues with other taps. However we decided an electric shower was probably sensible while we figure out whether to get the boiler fixed or replaced; energy policy certainly seems to be leaning away from gas and towards electricity. Not having had an electric shower installed before meant that we had to get two different tradespeople in but, with the electrical part completed last week, the plumber was able to make it yesterday and our shiny, new Triton T-80 is up and running.
It isn’t going to strip your skin off with its power but it is quite sufficient. Like every other electric shower I can remember using, you get a little blast of hot then cold when restarting it but that is over in two or three seconds and doesn’t involve jumping out and turning on a tap! Time to focus on the next job, which is a new tap in the kitchen (a task I think I can probably cope with myself).
