I’ve just been doing my homework for a practice tomorrow night with Other Way Up. Most of the songs we are doing are in the jazz / pop mould and I’m happy busking them from chord charts but that isn’t quite working for our version of (take a deep breath) The Lost Fingers version of Technotronic’s Pump Up the Jam. The crucial bit in that chain is The Lost Fingers, a Canadian band who specialise in demonstrating that there is nothing that can’t be turned into a Gypsy Jazz tune.
Having finished typing up my previous scribbles in Lilypond, giving a legible PDF score that I can insert in my copy of the set, I took a look to see what else the ‘Fingers have done and discovered this version of 70’s hard rock classic Black Betty (originally by Ram Jam).
It works very well in itself but, if you also know the original, that elevates it to awesomeness!
