Today’s big adventure was visiting the glasshouse at RHS Wisley to see the butterflies. Taking advantage of the heat which is needed for the tropical plants, they supplement the experience in the winter months by releasing a host of amazing butterflies.
It is a big attraction and we found that we had to queue for the best part of an hour. As members of the RHS, it was worth it, although I might have been a little disappointed if I’d paid to go in, as the weather wasn’t great for making the most of the outside exhibits (that said, some of their Hamamelis specimens are at the peak of their winter display). It had a lot more crowds of people and not as many different types of butterflies as the Butterfly farm at Stratford on Avon, which remains my number one place to walk among exotic butterflies in the UK.
