Manifold Greatness

I seem to be having a KJV-flavoured weekend. Yesterday I wrote about our trip to Creation Theatre’s play and today we took a trip down to the Bodleian library to visit their Manifold Greatness exhibition, which explores the background, translation and impact of this version of the Bible.

It is a fairly small exhibit but worth a visit if you are in the area. What struck me most was how hard to read many of the earlier works were but how, within a century, typefaces had been developed that seemed comfortably familiar (afide from that ftrange habit of using f to represent a lower case s except when terminating a word). Plenty to chew on though for students of the Bible, students of history and those who simply enjoy a fascination with old documents.

If you are further afield, the website linked above has plenty to explore.
