I came across a news item today entitled Ancient Trumpets Played Eerie Notes. It describes how work has been done on playing and listening to conch shells discovered in pre-Inca sites in Peru that are belived to have been used as instruments.

It was an interesting article and I couldn’t resist listening to the sound samples. Pray tell, what did these ancient instruments sound like? Well, not at all dissimilar to the vuvuzela, the instrument which was popularised (or villified) around the world during the World Cup!
