I saw an interesting video last week from the University of Kansas, proposing an answer to the question of how Shakespeare originally sounded.

To be honest, I expected that the answer would be “kind of American”, having heard the theory before that emigration from the UK preserved the early modern English accent in, what were at that time, the colonies. In fact, I would say the answer given sounds more Irish than anything else but follow the link and give it a listen yourself.
