Yesterday’s gig with The Pico Brown Five was interesting. As we expected, audience numbers were pretty low so we treated it more like a rehearsal. One thing we experimented with was some free jazz, creating music through improvisation of the whole song rather than just improvisation above a pre-defined set of bones.

Unfortunately I didn’t record any of it – I have been suffering with mild flu all weekend so wanted to keep things as simple as possible – but I think we might begin to introduce some of this into our regular set. We’ll see how it goes on our next outing, at the Ramjam Club in Kingston on Thursday 28 February (£3 cover).
