Carcassonne for Four

Jane and I are gradually working on trying the board game Carcassonne with more and more people. We have done two and three and, over the past week, we have also had the opportunity to give it a couple of tests with four.

As I expected, the game takes a little longer but also gets more interesting. In particular, I love the way that the “farming” element (pieces committed earlier in the game, which remain stuck in place but can rack up points in the final scoring after all the tiles are laid) makes it very hard to predict what the scores will be. Had I had a couple more linking tiles yesterday to join bits of territory together, I wouldn’t have come so soundly last!

The next challenge is to get five players together and see how that works out.
