I’ve reflected a little more on those Seabrook sweetcorn crisps after another couple of packets. I think their main problem is that eating sweetcorn is about the texture as well as the flavour. They have managed to catch a diluted version of the flavour but texture of crisps is very different to the combination of juicy and fibrous that you get with sweetcorn. It is ideally more of the former but you can’t always get them perfectly fresh. Crisps by their very nature don’t tick either of those boxes.

Of course, corn chips – the basis of Doritos and similar snacks – are a thing but those aren’t treated as anything fancy and aren’t trying to be juicy. With the sweetcorn crisps, you get that kind of texture but less flavour and that’s why I think I will pass up the chance to snag more packets.
