Today was my turn to step up and deliver the sermon again. I had an apparently odd pair of passages to work with: Luke’s narrative of Jesus on the cross between two criminals (Luke 23: 33-43) and a passage from Paul’s letter to the Colossians which started half-way through a sentence (Colossians 1:11-20).
I did some head scratching and double-checking that neither was the result of a typo. If it had been, that would have been my fault as I typed those passages into the preaching plan but, no, both were exactly as given in the Lectionary. For me, the key was remembering that as well as being ‘The Sunday Next Before Advent’, today is also marked as the feast of ‘Christ the King’.
