We’re off! Here is my first piece for the 30x30directwatercolor2020 challenge:
Yes, the painting is a bit wonky but that is what they were sold as. My palette was built on my cheap “Royal Langnickel” paints: yemon yellow, violet and deep green. I started with yellow, blocking in the lemon shapes and then mixed in a bit of the green to add some shading (and a couple of straight green bits.
Yellow’s complementary colour is purple, so I mixed in a touch of that, creating the olive colour that I used for the shadows and also to dry brush in some texture to the lemons. Finally, I used some pure violet to create a vivid contrast.
