In February I gave our John Downie crab apple a fairly heavy and perhaps slightly over-optimistic trim. It got a bit small for a while and then put up a lot of vertical shoots. Darn those growth hormones!
Having done some reading, I gave the tree a little trim:
It reveals a bit more of the back of the garden. Now I need to see if taking out most of the new shoots manages to rein the tree back from getting too tall.
