I finally got my work email inbox down to zero, after starting to make a breakthrough at the end of last month. Yesterday, I realised that I only had  two messages left, both of which had been mulling for some time. One of them turned out to need no specific action from me so I deleted it; the other needed a short reply (although not as much as I’d originally thought) so I dealt with it and deleted that too.

It won’t stop new messages coming in. In fact, I’ve just had a quick check and there are some there already. However, once I’ve zapped the junk, noted the ones that are just for information and made sure the other ones are either quickly dealt with or moved into places that are better for organising tasks, then maybe I can maintain the low number of messages sitting in the inbox for a while to come.
