A Foggy Day in Oxford Town

When I peeked through the curtains this morning to take a look at the garden I could hardly see it through the fog. Autumn’s morning blanket lay thick across the land. Already, an hour or so later, I can see signs of it beginning to clear but summer’s long rent seems consigned to the past.

The weather did prompt me to break out my Real Book and run through Gerschwin’s A Foggy Day a few times on the double bass. It is a tune I know pretty well but I was delighted to find that, even on the jumps to the higher notes, I was able to keep a steady pace rather than balking at them. I still can’t read everything that might be put in front of me but, working on harder material definitely makes the easier stuff easier! The mists are clearing indeed!
