When is my next gig? Tomorrow! The Elder Stubbs Festival is an annual event run at the Elder Stubbs allotments in Cowley by local charity, Restore. It takes place tomorrow (Saturday) from noon until 6pm and entry is £3 for adults (free for children) and includes a couple of music stages.
I’m down to play twice. The main set will be from about 4:30pm and I’ll be playing double bass with the Ben Mowat String Project. I’ll actually have dots in front of me and be playing (approximately) from the music but we’ve done a fair amount of practise and it is sounding great. Ben’s group has been running for quite a while but is just undergoing another shift in personnel as a couple of the members move on from Oxford, which has provided the opportunity for my debut with them.
I’ve had this one in the diary for several weeks but today the opportunity has come up for a subset of the group to play a half hour set on the acoustic stage from 1:30pm. This won’t be so heavily rehearsed but will be folk music and I’ll be busking from chords and by ear; back into familiar territory for me.
Tomorrow’s weather doesn’t look gloriously sunny but also doesn’t look like it will be wet so do pop by at 1:30pm and / or 4:30pm if you fancy hearing me play (and I think there is a full line up of music throughout the afternoon).
