On, rather than in, as I’m referring to the double bass. I’ve kept my upright bass safely in it’s whale of case for the past couple of months while we’ve been decorating downstairs but I needed it for a performance at the Rectory garden party this afternoon (saying farewell to the Rector of St Clement’s) and we have reached the stage where we could decant some books back downstairs and rescue the bass.
Fortunately I seem to still remember how to play it, although I think I might feel it in my hands tomorrow; it was a big garden and I was struggling to get a decent sounding volume (although the sound of the bass does tend to bloom as you move a certain distance away). No blisters though and, now it is out, I can start getting back to more regular practise with it, ready for a couple of gigs lined up in mid-August.
