More birdwatching today, this time at Ham Wall in Somerset. We saw some birds I’ve not seen before but the main lesson was that, even guided by experts, a good proportion of the observations rely on hearing rather than sight, such as the booming of the elusive bitterns.

Perhaps bird-watching is a bit of a misnomer!
