Jane and I went bird watching today with my parents at an RSPB reserve in Devon. To be honest, I think we see more birds in their back garden and at a closer range but it was nice to have a stroll round and glorious to listen to the chorus of our feathered friends even if most of their appearances were darting shadows at the end of binocular range.
Tomorrow we are visiting another reserve and going on a birdwatching for beginners walk so perhaps there are secrets to be learned. On the other hand, it may just be down to a combination of more powerful binoculars and a hide where you can quietly sit for long enough that the birds become unaware of your presence.
