I decided to sneak an early bottle of my latest homebrew last night, the brown ale I brewed up recently from crushed grains and hops. I need to be patient with the rest of the batch but I think I can count it a success as I hit exactly the kind of nutty mouthful I was after.
The next brewing mission will be to try another batch but tweak just one or two parameters to see what effect it has. Since the ale is quite dark in colour, I might try reducing the percentage of chocolate malt and slightly increase the percentage of crystal malt to compensate. Either I will keep the flavour but lighten the colour or I will find that it might be lighter but not as tasty.
