I saw an interesting TED talk recently called Visualizing the Medical Data Explosion:

We don’t have anything quite as astounding as the virtual autopsy table in the research department where I work but we are making use of some related technology, developing 3d training systems for surgeons. With a new imaging suite due to be completed fairly soon, I suspect it won’t be long before we have to up our storage provision too. As Anders Ynnerman explains, the amount of data these kind of machines can produce is huge!
