We tried the first fruits from our medlar (Mespilus germanica ‘Nottingham’) earlier this week. The weather has been more than cold enough for the fruit to become suitably bletted (half-rotten but in an edible fashion!).

The taste? Like a gently spiced stewed apple. Very pleasant and we are looking forward to next winter when, hopefully, we will have more than two tiny fruit to enjoy!
