PDF Scissors

PDF Scissors is a fantastic applet for cutting PDF files into smaller pages. Why would you want to do that? It makes a world of difference to readability on a small screen eReader like the Kindle. It had been a gripe that I either had to squint at text that was too small or use a relatively clumsy mechanism for moving about within a zoomed page. Using the scissors lets me view the top and bottom parts of the page as two separate screens, navigated using the paging buttons.

Another useful discovery was that those paging buttons make the Kindle easy to read with gloves on. I walked to work this morning (as I will be going to the dentists and walking back with Jane later on) and, although other controls were a bit fiddly, paging up and down was very easy.

Overall, I remain very impressed with the device. Teamed up with calibre (open source, cross-platform software for managing an eBook collection) it works very well and I remain very happy with my purchase.
