We managed to get two trees and two shrubs planted yesterday, as well as putting the Laurus nobilis we bought last week moved onto a more permanent pot. Good hard work but we took a break in the middle of the day to visit a wood-burning stove showroom although, in fact we never got there.
The reason was that I was remarking to Jane that it was an “open day” in Oxford, with many historic buildings open to the public when I remembered that we were meant to be on duty keeping St Clement’s open for the “Historic Churches Sponsored Ride and Stride” event that was also going on.
As it turned out, there were plenty of other people to welcome visitors so our late arrival did not cause any inconvenience. It did make me reflect on how remarkably associative the memory is though! Just as well that we had that conversation otherwise we might have missed our slot altogether.
