I surprised Jane recently by coming home from shopping with a bunch of roses for her. That was a month and a half ago — you can see where I used them in one of my 7 Days series. However, we both got another surprise when one of them produced a bud. The rest of the roses are long gone but, during the past week, the bud has finally flowered – our bonus rose!

I took several photos of the rose. This is one that I shot in RAW mode and converted to JPEG manually. Many photographers seem to regard this as essential (see a recent DPS poll) but, for my set up and uses, it still largely seems like a lot of extra work, with much larger files that need processing before they can be shared.
