I have had a carolling weekend. On Saturday afternoon, Jane, Dave and I took a walk down to Bonn Square in Oxford for a joint service being put on by Churches Together in Oxford, with various carols, readings, prayers, dramas and a message from the Bishop of Oxford.
That was a good chance to get some extra practise in for last night’s joint service back in Lewisham between Hither Green Baptist Church and St Swithun’s. We held the main carol service in the beautiful setting of St Swithun’s church and the three of us formed part of the choir. The whole service worked very well, thanks to numerous people all playing their part and we retired to HGBC afterwards for refreshments.
The most nerve-wracking part of the evening for me was singing a short solo – the frankincense verse from “We Three Kings”. It went okay although I don’t think I will be taking up a full-time classical singing career any time soon!
