My Favourite Picture – April 2007

Gorse Flowers

April saw 118 new pictures added to my Flickr account. I don’t manage to practise my photography every day but when I do get a chance, I frequently end up with a run of shots to work through.

After sifting through them, I have picked this shot of flowers on a gorse bush (Ulex europaeus) as my favourite (see del.icio.us for an index of the series of related posts).

I think the colours work well together, mainly yellow and dark green with a hint of blue in the background. I was also satisfied with the balance of the photo, contrasting the sharp foreground flowers with the smoothly blurred background. I took other pictures that were similar in composition but this combination (1/320s, f/5, ISO200, 40mm) yielded the most balanced exposure.

Meanwhile, I’m up to 96 pictures and counting for May, including some I am very pleased with, so I have more sifting lined up for the start of next month. Do you agree with my selection for April or would you have picked a different photo from the set?
