Emily Remler

If you listed all the jazz artists I have listened to, you would see that I am a fan of music from across a broad spectrum of this genre. However, there are so many to chose from that most float relatively low down in the overall ranking, with the exception of Emily Remler, who comes in a number four.

She was a jazz guitarist who, sadly, died in 1990. However, I did not discover her until much more recently, during the period when I had an account at emusic.com and was regularly exploring new artists. Remler’s skillful guitar work caught my ear and I kept coming back until I had about five albums, a significant proportion of her total recorded output as a leader.

I understand that her early death at age 32 was related to heroin; a sad waste of an extraordinary talent.
