To be honest, getting a Christmas tree seems like a bit of a pain. You either cut down a perfectly good tree and watch it dying over the festive season or elevate an artificial tree that symbolises man’s flagrant disregard for conserving natural resources. Either that, or we are just lazy!
However, we do like a limited amount of decoration during the Christmas season to set against all the cards we have gratefully received. Therefore, we were pleased a few years ago to be given a UFO – a cheap little gadget with lights that change colour and project down a mass of plastic strands.
It struck me the other day that this might work well for a photo – you can see one of the results inserted into this blog posting. Click the picture to view that one larger and also to see the other pictures I took. This was my favourite. It is amazing what a range of effects are created when you try and capture what you see through a camera; the imperfection of the technology creates a whole set of new views on the world.
Of course, it really has little more to do with Christmas than a tree, although it is when we remember a time, two thousand years ago, when strange lights were seen in the skies.
