Words Are Important to Me!

I get through a lot of words – reading, writing and speaking – so I treat them with respect. Therefore, I couldn’t resist taking The Commonly Confused Words Test to check that I’m up to scratch! I’m pleased to report that I came up with a satisfying result:

English Genius: You scored 100% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 93% Expert! You did so extremely well, even I can’t find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don’t. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you’re not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!

Thanks to ShortRedHead78 for the test and also the explanatory key that goes with it (that link takes you to the answers, so don’t read it until after you’ve tried the test). I think my slipup was on “whoever / whomever”. Oh well, whatever!

The test also generated comparisons between my performance and other people of my age bracket and gender. It placed me higher than 64% of my peers at beginner level, 68% at intermediate, 81% at advanced and 98% at Expert. However, before I get too carried away with myself, I have to acknowledge that most of my answers were intuitive. Along the way, I’ve picked up a few rules, such as the difference between advice and advise, but most of it is just a feeling for the correct answer. Uncommon intelligence? Merely blessed with a certain talent for words might be nearer the truth, although that’s still something to be grateful for!
