You can clearly see that winter has arrived in Loughborough. Today we have not just a heavy frost but also a light dusting of frozen snow. I took some photos earlier this week but I’m glad I didn’t get round to selecting one because I think this captures the season better, both with the cold but also with the beams of golden light. We are now into darkest winter but there are still some rays of hope.
If you have followed the series, you will see that the old polytunnel frame is gone but the new one isn’t up yet. I’d like to have it in before spring but it might have to wait for the ground to thaw a little and daytime temperatures to be not quite so close to zero. Another project in progress is a new run off tube for the water down the fence on the right. Before I hook that up, I need to get some supports in place: some of the wood I rescued from the Legally Blonde stage set will be just the ticket.
Finally, look over on the left. The bird feeder is hanging at an odd angle. If you click on the picture to view it on my Flickr site, you will be able to zoom in and see that there is a squirrel on the pole, who must have been in the act of trying to get into. It didn’t succeed but the birds are messy enough in their feeding that it won’t go entirely hungry if he comes back later and scavenges from the ground!
