Today was another step forward in our garden infrastructure project. Jane and I went out and removed the failing cover from the polytunnel in the back garden. It has been shedding an increasing amount of its plastic and the top was pretty much down to the bare support mesh. At least it won’t be shedding any more.

The next project will be disassembling the frame and rebuilding at the back of my allotment, where I will use it to protect some soft fruit bushes when they get towards harvest next year. Once the old frame is out of the way, I will need to adjust a couple of the beds I build in the polytunnel and then we can make a start on setting up the replacement. This newer one is slightly narrower, slightly shorter and, based on our experience of the same make we had in Oxford, should be much more robust and long lasting. The next back garden picture, which I’ll try to take sometime soon, will look quite a lot different.
