Today I’ve made a start on erecting the fruit cage down at the allotment. Slow progress! The first step is to put in the foundation posts. I’ve got them in the right positions (helped by the classic 3:4:5 triangle to check for square angles at the corners) but driving them down to the right level is proving to be hard work in my stony ground.

So far, I’ve got four set where I want them – two which could be hammered down and two where Jane and I needed to get a post spade out of the shed in order to dig down and remove a number of large stones that I was never going to pound my way through. Still, I’ve only got six more to go and I think the process will be much easier after that (he says optimistically!).
