Here’s a view of the allotment as I was getting ready to go home for lunch today. The big change is the addition of a third covered bed in the middle. This bed has spring onions, beetroot and carrots planted, all seeds which are (in theory) suitable for sowing up to the end of July. They were half-price in Wilko and not expensive even before the offer so not much lost if they don’t come to anything and a gain if I get a halfway decent harvest. The ground between the three beds has a layer of newspaper or cardboard to exclude the light and a good helping of wood chip on top, which should keep the weeds down for a while and make it better to walk on come rain or shine.
Compare the details to a similar photo taken three weeks ago, like the sizes of the various crops or the weatherboards and finials added to the edge of the shed roof, and you’ll see that things are coming along nicely.
