The tomato plants in the polytunnel are coming along well. Some have now become real monsters and we had to run a couple of extra support strings today to stop them flopping forward. I’ve been removing side shoots and reducing the lower foliage and there are now quite a few green tomatoes on the vines.
In my experience, tomatoes respond quite well to pruning. Removing or trimming the lower leaves makes for easier watering and also allows light to reach the developing fruit. Now it is a case of keeping up with the feeding and watering and keeping an eye open for when those fruit start to ripen.
