Today was a museum day for me and Jane. We drove up to Pride Park stadium in Derby, picked up the park and ride (can’t argue with £3 for parking and for the return journey for both of us into the city) and visited the three sites that make up the trio of Derby museums.
I particularly enjoyed the Museum of Making, set in a former silk mill on the banks of the Derwent. It was in contention for Art Fund Museum of the Year. It turns out, in the results announced this evening, that this honour has gone to the Horniman Museum in London (which I visited a lot in my childhood and when I lived in Lewisham) which was always a fantastic place but I can still say that I’ve visited one of the top five museums in the UK today (according to the Art Fund).
All three work well together although it adds up to a fair amount of walking when you add the space between them to the distance trawling around the galleries.
