As part of our Pentecost celebrations at St Clement’s yesterday, we had an international bring and share lunch. The challenge was to produce something representing your country of origin which could be served cold (due to the limited kitchen facilities).

My bright idea was haggis-filled pasties, thus spanning from Cornwall to Scotland and representing the length of the British Isles. Fortunately Tesco still had haggis in stock so my plan wasn’t scuppered at that point. The pasties were smaller and more delicate than traditional ones (allegedly made with crusts thick enough to serve as a handle for grubby, working hands, and big enough to keep that worker going all day) but they went down well and raised a few smiles as well.

Thinking about it, I had potato in there along with the haggis, which I could have claimed for Ireland. If I’d had some leek, it could have counted for Wales as well and I’ve have got all four nations!
