Every year, St Clement’s takes part in OxClean. Across the city, a large number of volunteer groups go out litter picking and playing a small part in keeping this city cleaner.

My favourite bit of the event is getting to play with the litter pickers – the trigger operated devices that we use for picking up the trash. They have flexible rubber grips that are brilliant for picking up dirt. Got a dog end? No problem – those grips are better than fingers for picking up even little things.

We were a bit worried about whether Storm Freya would disrupt us but, it turned out to be not too bad… although next year I must try and remember to bring a couple of hoops to help manage the rubbish bags.
