Ian was passing through Oxford on Thursday evening and so we took the opportunity to catch up over a meal at SoJo, a wonderful little Chinese restaurant that is conveniently close to the station. I got there a little early and had time to do some drawing:
What I hadn’t realised until I came to look back at the picture the next day was how the composition of the double spread image echoed the Chinese Yin Yang symbol. If I’d sought to use this idea, the result would probably have looked contrived but here it grew out of the simple attempt to balance the range of values and a touch of happy accident.
It is one of several recent sketches I uploaded to my Flickr account on Friday – see my Sketches album for more.
