I’m cautious about pushing my guitar sounds at church too far towards the hard rock end of things. Cleaner tones or perhaps a bit of chorus fit the bill better. However, once in a while, I get to stomp on a fuzz box. The trick for blending it in seems to be to wait for a song to reach a point where it is quite intense and then the extra grit helps take things up another notch without being so obvious. I suppose it is a bit like singing, where sometimes you go for tuning and timing and, once in a while, you just need to belt it.
I got to do a bit of both this morning while leading the music at church (on the Variax guitar today as the bass chair was safely covered) – rock ‘n’ roll!
