Winter Haiku

Jane and I went to a brilliant birthday party this afternoon where, instead of presents, we were invited to bring along things that expressed our creativity. As well as providing an icebreaker (use 20 questions to find out what someone you haven’t met before brought along) we were encouraged to stir our artistic skills with other expressions, including a game of Pictionary and writing a limerick or haiku.

I picked a haiku, inspired partly by mists I had seen rolling across the neighbouring playing fields earlier in the party but also by driving back home after Christmas and passing fog lit gold by the sun:

Winter mist illumed,
Sun rising: the fierce, bold dawn
blazes – golden crown.
