Like a Disappointed Madonna

Last night our house group watched the (fantastic) 1991 film Enchanted April. One of the stars was Miranda Richardson; one of the lines of dialogue described her face as looking like a disappointed Madonna (the iconic cultural image, not the iconic pop star). The disappointed bit was a little unkind although germane to the plot but it stuck me just how much she has the look of a lady from a Renaissance painting, certainly within the context of the film and how she appeared in the early 1990s.

Search for images of Miranda Richardson and perhaps you’ll see what I mean – although it also illustrates how much faces change with time, expression and setting.
