Cycling home from work on Thursday evening was, erm, interesting. Not far away from work the bike started responding oddly including some worrying scraping noises. Stopping to check, I discovered the rear axle had broken; both a new experience and a walk home!

All got repaired at my local bike shop (Reg Taylor’s – yay for fast, good and affordable service). Apparently it isn’t that common although more so on bikes with child seats. I wonder if it was that backpack full of library books?

More likely I strained the axle a few months ago, letting water get in and starting corrosion. Overall, an unpleasant experience but at least it was quickly fixed and I’m back to readiness for cycling in on Monday.
