Being British, I suspect I am obliged to post about the weather once in a while. It has certainly been noteworthy today – another record broken with the hottest day on record in the UK since records began in the 1870s. According to The Guardian, Heathrow hit 36.7°C although, before getting carried away with superlatives, that is only 0.2°C hotter than the previous record (Wisley, Surrey, in 2006).
Oxford wasn’t quite that hot but it was getting quite enervating towards the end of the afternoon and, at 10:30pm, is still warmer now than the warmest parts of the day from not that many weeks ago. I’m looking longingly at tomorrow’s forecast – rain and a significant drop back in temperatures, which will delight both me and the garden.
