Now, Where Was I?

I discovered something vaguely frightening this week: Google has got a pretty good idea of where I am and it keeps a history of where I’ve been. If you’ve got an Android device and you use it for location-based services, like maps, have a look at Google Location History. I can scroll back over recent years and spot things like holidays I’ve taken (unfamiliar territory so my phone or tablet provides me with handy GPS services). It doesn’t have everything though; perhaps it should be even more worrying that they might try to make guesses about me on incomplete data although, given that the results will mainly be targetted advertising, which I pay scant attention to, it is unlikely to give me sleepless nights.

You do seem to be able to delete the data but I think I’ll leave it on there; my sense of fascinating outweighs any nagging paranoia!
