End of March…

… and yesterday …

Looking down on the front garden

Front Garden – 9 April 2014

Apart from the stronger sunlight yesterday (a beautiful morning but providing rather too much contrast for the photos), you can see how many of the plants are developing in leaps and bounds. For example the medlar (Mespilus germanica ‘Nottingham’) on the right has gone from budding leaves to being covered in green. If you could see that closer, you would also see plenty of flower buds developing suggesting we will have another good crop this year.

Also, look for the blues. The plants round the base of the medlar and also our elder (Sambucus nigra ‘Black Lace’, back centre) are grape hyacinth (Muscari armeniacum), blooming a fortnight ago but much stronger now. Even more vividly, look for the spray of forget-me-nots by the rhubarb; invisible in the first shot but peppering the garden with pastel blue at the moment.
